Alone in the vineyard with a hooded falcon: comfort owned outright, discipline still on the wrist.
The Plate
The falcon is hooded, and the hood is the whole discipline. A woman stands alone in her vineyard, robed in yellow patterned with red flowers, her gloved left hand carrying the blindfolded bird; grapevines heavy with fruit and hung with pentacles rise on either side of her, a manor roof shows through the trees behind, and down at the hem of her robe a snail crosses the path at its own pace. Her right hand rests on one of the coins almost absently — the gesture of an owner, not a counter. Nothing in the frame is wild except the thing on her wrist, and that thing is trained.
The Reading
Abundance in this plate is entirely aftermath. The vines took years; the falcon took longer; the ease that fills the card was purchased in seasons the card does not show, which is why the school resists reading it as simple luck. What the woman has is what the suit means by wealth — not the coins but the standing arrangement that keeps producing them, tended by one person who answers to nobody in the frame. The hooded falcon carries the sharpest line: appetite is present, alive, kept — and under a hood she can remove at will. Mastery of an instinct is not its absence.
Reversed, one of the supports gives. The garden turns out to be mortgaged to a person or a habit; the hood comes off at the wrong hour; or the walls that made solitude sweet begin holding rather than sheltering. The snail is still in the picture either way. Some cures for the reversal are simply slow.
In the School
Nines bring each element near completion, and Earth — the suit's element in Foundations of Astrology's table — completes as cultivation: the difference, the school insists, between what grows and what is grown.
UPRIGHT
Earned ease: self-sufficiency, the walled garden paid for in past discipline, comfort owned outright rather than borrowed.
REVERSED
The garden without the falcon's hood — luxury leaning on someone else's coin, discipline slipped, or a fine enclosure lived in as a cage.
Learn the cards as one system, not seventy-eight fortunes.
